Colosseum. Rome, Italy. (TBT)

The Colosseum, also known as the oval Flavian Amphitheater, has such an extraordinary presence. It was so captivating that I got lost in the history behind it and barely took photos (very rare). The Colosseum was constructed in AD 72 by Emperor Vespasian with only concrete and sand but has been preserved to modern day. The aim of the arena was for Emperor Vespasian to gain popularity by staging deadly combats of gladiators and wild animal fights for public viewing. The Colosseum was built to hold audiences of around 50,000 to 87,000 spectators. It's almost like a slightly downsized version of a Barcelona's Camp Nou ; ) (99,000 capacity). Pretty admirable for ancient construction, huh?
