The infamous Vatican, home to the pope, a trove of iconic art and architecture. The Vatican is filled with ancient Roman sculptures such as the Laocoön and Renaissance frescoes in the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling. We decided to go up to the very top after exploring the precious church. Climbing up hundreds of steps up the Vatican was starting to become treacherous. I started to yell out to him every time we saw another flight of stairs. After reaching the top and taking off my sunglasses, I was enchanted with a 360 panoramic view of a foreign city colored with pale pinks, nudes, and emerald greens.
Feeling the breeze and inhaling the fresh air while realizing we were over 150 feet up in the air, was exhilarating. When I know very little about a culture, it intrigues my imagination and I feel limitless. The views of the Vatican aren't ones to miss. You can sit here for hours just looking out, and eventually you say a little prayer, religious or not; that you were healthy enough to make it up that flight of stairs. Not everyone can see that view. You feel fortunate and like everything in life, nothing good comes easy.
